Scriptures In Schools Week is to be celebrated the last "full week" of each September.
{Future Dates: Sept 20-27, 2009 and Sept 19-25, 2010}

Please e-mail a link to this page to your Christian friends throughout America!

The only people keeping Bibles out of America’s public schools are -- us Christians!
Let’s just bring them in.  Millions of us.  Tote ‘em and quote ‘em!

SIS Project seeks to fulfill The Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20.

SIS Project recognizes that our public schools are a valid mission field.

SIS Project is inspired by Isaiah 55:11

"So shall be my word that goes forth out of my mouth;
It shall not return unto me void;
But it shall accomplish that which I please,
And shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it."

Would you like a 1/2-page sized insert for your church’s bulletin?

Do you need a flyer to distribute to friends, youth groups, Christian bookstores, etc.?

ß See the first link at top of frame on the left.

(Document was created using Microsoft Word)

Also support the Word at Work Week during that same time.

Bring your Bibles to your office, factory, store, work site, etc.

SIS WEEK is a "grass roots" operation... which means that YOU... the Christian reading this page... YOU should exercise personal initiative & leadership to get SIS started in YOUR church, town, & school. Don't wait for a "leader": BE ONE! Recruit others!

Start organizing with your local Christian friends, pastors, families, media, etc. Gather a team of contact persons for each church & school. Search your ISP member-directory for other Christians who are on-line in your town. (Use search-words like Christian, Bible, Jesus, student, pastor, church, etc., 'Your Town, State'.) Get the word out. YOU can do it!

Use info from this web page to make an informational flyer/poster to display & distribute at churches, Christian bookstores, concerts, etc. Include info so that local Christians can contact YOU. Be sure to include the SIS web page address.

SUGGESTED EVENTS & TIMELINE for SIS WEEK

(These are only suggestions. Please apply or modify them per your church's doctrines or traditions.)

* Preliminary plans, promotion, communication and coordination with other area churches should be

taken care of during the days/weeks prior to SIS Week. The earlier on the better!

* Be sure to get your local Christian radio, TV/cable stations, and publishers involved weeks in advance.

Be sure to pray for SIS Week at See You At The Pole gatherings.

Promote SIS Week and distribute informational flyers to the SYATP participants.

KICK OFF RALLY!  Organize one locally on the weekend prior to SIS Week.  Especially effective if several churches work together.  Invite Christian public school students and employees (teachers, aides, administrators, custodians, bus drivers, etc.) as well as parents & clergy.  Pray!  Sing!

SUN Formal "kickoff" and dedication at church services nationwide. Promote from the pulpit!
MON Bring Bibles to School! & T-Shirt Day #1: Wear Christian message T-shirts, sweat shirts, & jackets to school. Make new friends! Meet kids & teachers you never knew were Christians - just like you! [NOTE: Do Not Bring your Bibles home until end of school year. An "extra" Bible is useful!]
TUE Buttons, Pins, Stickers, Patches, & Jewelry Day #1: Wear Christian message items on your clothes; some items can be attached to your book covers & book bags. (Bring more Bibles)
WED Tract Day & T-Shirt Day #2: Leave tracts at strategic places throughout school (library books, desks, lockers). (Bring more Bibles)
THU Buttons, Pins, Stickers, Patches & Jewelry Day #2: (Bring more Bibles)
FRI WWJD Day & T-Shirt Day #3: Wear your WWJD & Christian witness items! Wristbands, T-shirts, caps, hats, jackets, jewelry, etc.
SAT Area Churches & Youth Groups may want to host a common, interdenominational luncheon, concert, or other social activity for students & public school employees for prayer, encouragement, edification, Friendship Evangelism, etc.
SUN Report to your churches. Share testimonies at services, Sunday School, etc.

PLEASE… e-mail report to SISProject@bringyourbible.com.  It would be deeply appreciated if you mailed in video taped TV news stories, radio show audio tapes, newspaper clippings.  Please be sure to fully identify the date & source (name of newspaper, call letters of station) of publication or broadcast.  Thanks!

Other Possible Events or Themes to Use

TEXTBOOK COVERS!  Cover your books with Christian message book covers: Like the Ten Commandments or other Bible verses. Witnessing book covers are available at Christian bookstores.

• Give a Bible to a Friend Day (An unsaved friend! Gift-wrapped with a personal note!)
• Meet for Prayer & Bible Reading Days: Before/After School or at lunch.
• Christian Candy & Toys Day: Available at your local Christian bookstore or through catalogs & the Internet.
• Boom Box Day: Tune your radio to local Christian station; play Christian tapes or CDs.
• Bumper Sticker Day: For students & staff who drive to school... and parents who drive their kids to school.
• Gideons' Day: The Gideons and other organizations which distribute Bibles or tracts at schools could do so this week.
• Christian Comic Book Day: Kids (and adults!) who might not otherwise touch a Bible will often read a comic book. The comic approach feels 'comfortable' to them. Available at Christian bookstores.
• Bible in Disguise Day: Some Bibles and paraphrased versions do not mention the word Bible on their covers. (Ex: The Book, Good News for Modern Man)
• Pastors & Clergy Day: Be involved in some part of the school day -- at the school. Visit classes? Greet students before or after school? Be visible! Wear your clerical garb & carry your Bible. Coordinate with other area clergy. Elders, nuns, deacons, deaconesses, etc. could also participate -- carrying their Bibles, too.
* Does YOUR school have a "free reading" time such as Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.)? YOU should read your Bible and be seen doing so during some of those times (including study hall, etc.).

Please: Respect property! DO NOT alienate people by putting appliques or bumper stickers where you shouldn't. Do not deface your school or other people's property. Avoid creating Christian "litter".

ATTN: School ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS & STAFF! A “Matthew 10:16” Note of Wisdom >>> Although our students have fairly broad freedom regarding their use of Bibles and religious expression in public schools, there are some limitations upon school employees. Therefore, SIS Project advises school employees to be circumspect about their participation in SIS Week activities. SIS Project urges school staff to exercise their full range of academic freedoms and religious rights while remaining in compliance of applicable law. You can review the rights of public school employees by referring to your school district’s policy statements, as well as resources available through:

1) U.S. Dept of Education’s Guidelines on Religious Expression in Public Schools www.ed.gov
2) Alliance Defense Fund www.telladf.org
3) American Center for Law & Justice www.aclj.org
4) Liberty Counsel www.lc.org

Our friends at the ALLIANCE DEFENSE FUND have produced an excellent memo entitled:

WHO SAID THAT ?

“Should not the Bible regain the place it once held as a schoolbook? Its morals are pure, its examples are captivating and noble. In no Book is there so good English, so pure and so elegant, and by teaching all the same they will speak alike, and the Bible will justly remain the standard of language as well as of faith."

Who said that? None other than Fisher Ames, the man who wrote the First Amendment! Fisher Ames (1758-1809), served as a Congressman for Massachusetts in the First Session of the United States Congress when the Bill of Rights was being formulated. He drafted the actual wording of the First Amendment as it was finally adopted: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to freely assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (How odd: The phrase "separation of church and state" is not in the 1st Amendment! In fact, that phrase appears NOWHERE in our Constitution or Bill of Rights!) Mr. Ames, a bona fide American patriot and devout Christian, saw no "conflict" with using the Bible as a textbook in America’s schools.

±†±

IMPORTANT: DO NOT seek "permission" from school officials to implement SIS in your school or community. Why?  Because, 1) YOU don't need it! 2) THEY cannot legally approve or deny such a request. School officials are government officials. Therefore, asking them for "permission" would put them into the no-win position of violating the so-called "separation of church & state" no matter which way they decided.
JUST DO IT! In addition to already having God's permission (and commission) to do so... you also have the Constitutional right to bring your Bible to school. Keep in mind that in addition to any "religious" significance, the Bible is also a renowned and respected reference text of history, archaeology, prose, poetry, and more. It is also the document to which America's Founding Fathers referred more than all other sources combined.
